Alpenkiez — Berlin kebab

Alpenkiez × RUE studio: identity and menu for a Berlin kebab shop in Zurich Oerlikon, made for people standing at the counter and hungry.

Attitude

We like brands that happen in a real place. A shop has no time for a mission statement — it has a wall, a queue, and thirty seconds per person. Design that holds up there has to be loud enough for the pavement and calm enough for the order. Getting both at once is the work we exist for.

Our task

  • A mark and a wall menu that get read on site, not on a moodboard.
  • Build the menu in the order people order in: bread first, then meat.
  • Photography inside the shop, under the light that actually hangs there.

The wall menu is the brand

The board above the counter is the most important surface there is. Everything else — site, signage, social — was drawn backwards out of it, not the other way round.

Bread first, then meat

Pitta, wholemeal, dürüm, plate. Veal, steak, chicken, veggie. The menu follows the order people order in, not the logic of a spreadsheet.

Loud, but not shouting

One accent, one typeface, a lot of quiet around the noise. The red does the work so the words do not have to.
